*According to Diotima, the priestess who teach Socrates what Love is: Eros (Love, Desire) is the companion and follower of Aphrodite (the Beauty), because it was conceived on the day of her birth, and that's why by its own nature is a lover of beauty. And is the son of Poro (Intelligence) and Penia (Poverty). So it happened to Love this fate: first it is very far from being delicate and beautiful, as many think, but rather it is hard, shabby, barefoot, peregrine, miserable, use to sleep naked on the floor, on the thresholds of houses and for roads; because it conforms to the nature of the mother. But by the father is brave, bold and resolute hunter; always planning and curious to understand; full of traps, intent whole life to philosophize, is sorcerer and sophist. Its nature is neither immortal nor mortal. Sometimes, if he is happy, the same day flourishes and lives. Sometimes however, if unhappy, withers and dies; but then, thanks to the nature of the father, resurrects. What he reach always flows through his hands, so Love does not possess anything; its neither rich nor poor, neither wise nor ignorant, neither good nor bad. Its 'the bridge that connects the world of the Gods to the world of men; and is the force that attracts the things to one another. Because Love is Desire. For this you always love what you lack.
